Helping Others Maximize Their Stewardship Of God’s Resources
By Rick Kern
If you want to dream more, plan more, and do more with the resources that God has entrusted you with, then you’re going to want to call Ambassador Advisors. Headquartered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Ambassador Advisors has been providing financial planning and money management services with a distinct Christian stewardship perspective to clients for nearly 30 years. And as they have grown, they have added offices in both Binghamton and Painted Post, New York to better serve their increasing client base.
The company was founded in 1990 by Robert Kauffman, and manages over $500 million dollars for individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. They presently serve an impressive 3,000-plus businesses, organizations, and families throughout more than 30 states.
Their stated mission is: To support and promote biblical stewardship through appropriate financial planning, estate strategies, and money management services for the benefit of nonprofits, charities, individual donors, and investors.
Reading it, you might wonder why a financial management firm would want to storm the commercial marketplace stressing Christian stewardship, but it is not that complicated. “What we have is not ours, but a gift from God,” explains company President Bernard I. Bostwick. “We can’t take it with us when we pass, so we need to be the best possible stewards of what God has entrusted us with today.”
Like any “secular” wealth management company, Ambassador Advisors marshals a practiced, proficient, and professional team of experienced financial managers and legacy specialists. They are well qualified to provide individual investors, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations with superior financial advice and a well-balanced, common sense approach to both a winning strategy and its implementation. However, unlike their secular counterparts, the Ambassadors Advisors’ playbook is built around a well-balanced, godly stewardship-centered approach to financial planning with integrity and expertise that is driven by an eternal perspective.
“You have to know the techniques on how to transfer money to the next generation,” says Bostwick. “We say that there’s three groups of people you can leave your money to when you go home to glory. You can leave it to your family, you can leave it to ministries, you can leave it to the government; you can choose what percentage you want to leave each one of those groups. We help people be more tax-efficient in their planning.”
“We don’t just focus on helping people accumulate wealth,” he adds. “We don’t want to be foolish, remember the individual in the Bible who said to himself, ‘I built up this great amount of wealth for my benefit, for my future.’ God called him a fool and said, ‘Well, your soul is going to be required from you tonight.” Continuing he explains, “We focus not only on accumulation and distribution of how you give of what you have to God’s work today, but on who receives it whenever you pass away.”
Bostwick, originally from Pennsylvania, gave his life to the Lord while he was in the service. “I was in the Air Force my first year,” he reflects, “and through different events that occurred, I became a believer. That’s when my walk began. I was saved in the latter part of 1984 when I was in the service.” He continues, “I was a sergeant and an officer came in and he shared the love of Jesus Christ with me. I knew God used him — he spoke in a way that I understood it and I was able to understand my sins and my need of a Savior. I accepted Christ at that point. It’s been an interesting adventure since then. Many valleys, many mountains but through it all, I’ve seen the Lord carry me the whole way.”
After working in another industry in Kansas City, he eventually found himself back in Lancaster. “I had a desire to move back to Lancaster because of its strong, faith-based community,” he recalls. The move coincided with Bostwick’s license and designations in the financial advisory industry.
Bernie, as he is known, has spent nearly two decades as a manager in business and industry, with a focus on financial planning for the last ten years. He has received a Certificate in Retirement Planning from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and has earned his Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation. Additionally, he is a member of the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy (AIP), the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning, and the Christian Leadership Alliance (CLA). Most importantly, his love for God is emblematic of the entire team at Ambassador Advisors.
All their financial services are handled in-house, and you can count on their professionalism and integrity to curate a comprehensive financial road map to get you where you want to go whether you’re a business owner, a nonprofit leader, or individual investor. Their lineup includes a team of experts in wealth management, financial strategies, legacy planning, client services, nonprofit partners, and business operations. “Each department in our firm brings expertise that allows us to evaluate your financial situation from every angle, including insurance, wealth management, and legal,” Bostwick explains. “We bring everyone to the table to produce a plan with you that makes sense and keeps us all working toward the same goals.” And not only are they experienced and knowledgeable, but they are unflinchingly guided by Christian beliefs and values.
Accordingly, Ambassador Advisors has seen steady growth in their firm and is currently seeking Christian financial advisors who want to join the Ambassador Advisors team in Pennsylvania and New York. Advisors who have shared values and a heart for ministry will be good fit for the culture that it has established. “Navigating an ever-changing financial landscape can be overwhelming,” says Bostwick. “That’s why it’s important to have a partner you can trust on your side, whether you are in your prime working years, starting a family, or nearing retirement.”
