We are very excited about opening a new nature center building for the upcoming camp season. Everyone knows that camp is synonymous with outdoor learning fun, and now we have the space and a new layout in which to explore and learn. We are thrilled about being able to display nature’s treasures in an attractive, spacious lay-out in close proximity to a pond, meadows, woods and stream.
This new space will allow us to expand opportunities for enriched experiences for our campers including nature crafts. We envision this space over-run by children who are learning to appreciate the intricate and beautiful designs God created for us to enjoy on this side of heaven. During some weeks where there is lots of rain, the design will let us offer an activity that feels like being outdoors, even when that would be uncomfortable and impractical.
Built to honor the memory of one of our long time staff who headed our nature program, this venue is being called Eaglet’s Nature Center. Eaglet was the bird name for Elizabeth Thomson, as all staff associated with camp follow the tradition of taking bird names.
The building was constructed last fall by Xtreme Contracting who did a fabulous job. Only a few interior details remain to be finished. The nature center is just one among a cluster of activity areas which includes the archery and rifle ranges, the boating and fishing area with the pond, the horse pasture, swimming pool and the pavilion.
It’s not too soon to be thinking about a God-centered camping experience for your child, grandchild, neighbor or co-worker’s child. All you need to know will be found on the web at www.campcherithwny.org.
