|(Houghton, NY) – Dr. Ransom Poythress, assistant professor of biology at Houghton College, has authored a chapter of the forthcoming book Redeeming the Life of the Mind, available on November 30, 2017.
The book is comprised of a collection of essays in honor of the life and legacy of his father, theologian and scholar Vern Poythress. Ransom’s contribution, “Redeeming Science: A Father-Son Tale,” is a personal and historical reflection on his father’s influence as well as an exposition of his position on the integration of faith and science.
In his chapter Ransom emphasizes that science is for everyone – not just the accomplished scientists using complicated jargon or the stereotypical introverted researcher in a laboratory. He describes how, from an early age, his father taught him that everything is created by God and belongs to God, including everything in the domain of science. Ransom’s father instilled a deep delight in his son for understanding science from a Christian worldview.
“It was an honor and delight to be able to share my story of the way God has filled me to overflowing with the joy of the knowledge of who He is as revealed in Scripture and creation,” notes Ransom.
